"Explore English with Russie", Issue 27
"Explore English with Russie", Issue 27 is out.
For the last two weeks I have had so many reasons to celebrate life and new adventures. Sometimes we are too busy to notice the beautiful things around us- the colourful leaves in the park or the breath-taking sunsets. What inspires me every morning is the thought of endless possibilities that the day brings along and also the fact that I can make my lessons more meaningful and exciting. That’s why never do I miss a chance to show my students and readers how important our personal happiness is.
On 7th October we celebrated WORLD SMILE DAY. Did you know that:
- Smiling boosts your immune system
- It relieves stress by releasing endorphin
- It is easier to smile than frown
- When we smile, 53 muscles are engaged
- Babies are born with the ability to smile
- There are 19 different types to smile
Can you help at least one person smile today? Here's some ideas how:
- surprise your colleague/friend/teacher with a bar of chocolate
- stick a Post-it Note with a nice message in your classmate's book
- buy a flower for your mum/girlfriend/teacher
- make a nice cake and surprise your neighbour with it
- write a poem about SMILES
Talking about poems, there is a beautiful one on page 3. Have you got a favourite “happy” poem? If so, why don’t you share it with me and my readers?
I was listening to one of my favourite radio shows “Steve Wright’s Sunday love songs” yesterday when Steve played an amazing classic song “The greatest love of all”. What caught my attention was this particular part of the song:
I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be.
Hey, the singer George Benson says it all. On Friday I dedicated all my classes to SMILES and HAPPINESS. One of the things my students and I created was a “Smiley face” bookmark. Now they are supposed to give it to someone and bring a smile to their face.
If you want to make your own SMILEY FACE bookmark, check out this video:
